MDG helped secure a coalition victory that blocked Norway’s far-right surge. Outspaces responded to their call to help level the playing field.
In Norway’s recent local elections, the left coalition held. And crucially, Miljøpartiet De Grønne (MDG) helped make that possible—blocking a far-right-dominated bloc that had openly promised to roll back environmental protections.
Outspaces normally steers clear of party politics. But this year, we responded to MDG’s direct call for support. It wasn’t an easy decision, and we had hesitations. Would it be seen as overreach? Would it alienate some of our partners or potential clients?
Why we chose to act anyway
These concerns were quickly brushed aside – we only work with sustainability leaders after all. And if any potential future clients take offence, they probably wouldn’t be a good fit for us anyway. But what ultimately swayed us was the double standard. Business money flows freely into right-wing campaigns – often without the slightest bit of scrutiny. Yet when a company offers even modest backing to climate-focused candidates, it risks backlash.
MDG didn’t ask for a blank check. They just asked to be heard. And in a media and political landscape dominated by deep pockets, helping to amplify that message felt not just fair – but necessary.
Outspaces supported MDG’s campaign with a modest contribution, yet one that is in line with our belief in transparency and our alignment with those fighting for environmental and social progress. Congratulations to MDG on a strong election showing. We look forward to seeing how this new government takes shape – with a strengthened MDG at the table.
